Today we're launching something we've wanted to build for a long time: a suite of free privacy tools that anyone can use, no account required. These tools bring the same detection technology that powers PromptDuty to everyone—completely free and with full privacy.
We believe everyone deserves access to basic data protection tools. Whether you're a freelancer sanitizing client data, a student working on a project, or someone who just wants to share text without exposing personal information, these tools are for you.
Why Free Tools?
Over the past year, we've heard from countless people who needed to redact sensitive information but didn't need (or couldn't justify) a full enterprise solution. They'd ask us questions like:
- "I just need to share this one document with a contractor—how do I remove the personal details quickly?"
- "Before I paste this into ChatGPT, how can I check if there's any sensitive data in it?"
- "I have a CSV file with customer data I need to share for testing—is there an easy way to anonymize it?"
These are legitimate needs that don't require a subscription. So we built tools to address them—and made them free.
The Tools
We're launching three tools today, with more planned:
Text Redaction Tool
Paste any text and instantly see a redacted version. Detects emails, phone numbers, SSNs, credit card numbers, IP addresses, and dates.
File Redaction Tool
Upload text files (.txt, .csv, .json, .xml, .log, .md) and download a redacted version with all sensitive data removed. Perfect for sharing documents safely.
PII Scanner
Not sure what's in your text? Scan it first. The PII Scanner identifies exactly what types of sensitive data are present and gives you a risk assessment.
100% Private—By Design
Here's the most important thing about these tools: your data never leaves your device.
All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. When you paste text or upload a file, it's analyzed right there on your computer. Nothing is sent to our servers. We couldn't see your data even if we wanted to.
This isn't just a privacy feature—it's a fundamental design decision. We built PromptDuty because we believe sensitive data should be protected. It would be hypocritical to build tools that require you to send that same sensitive data to us.
Use Cases
Before Using AI Tools
Use the PII Scanner to check your prompt before pasting it into ChatGPT, Claude, or any other AI tool. If sensitive data is detected, use the Text Redaction Tool to clean it up first.
Sharing Documents
Need to share a log file with a vendor for debugging? A CSV with a contractor? Use the File Redaction Tool to remove any personal information before sending.
Testing and Development
Developers often need realistic-looking data for testing. Upload a production data sample to the File Redaction Tool and get back a safe version you can use in staging environments.
